Founded in 1973, the company has interests in operations across energy, manufacturing, shipping, professional services, trading, media, hospitality, and banking.

It has now announced its acquisition of Türkiye Petrolleri, one of Turkey’s largest fuel retail chains. The petrol company, set up in 1963, operates more than 800 fuel stations across Turkey, with nine filling facilities and a storage capacity of approximately 307,000 cubic metres.

Zeren’s new total network of 1,120 petrol stations in the country is equivalent to around 6.5% of the national fuel market, which grew 7.9% to $35bn (€33.4bn) of sales in 2023, according to energy regulator EPDK.

The company says its latest acquisition strengthens its position as a leader in Turkey’s energy sector and represents a consolidation of domestic energy companies.

The group earlier bought Alpet, a fuel distributor operating 259 stations across Turkey, and six storage and filling facilities with a total capacity of 227,014 cubic metres. This was Zeren Group’s latest foray into the wider energy sector.

European interests

Zeren Group’s energy interests in the UK include Laval Energy,** a London-based energy consultancy firm.  Zeren says it aims to use Laval to extend its success in the energy sector in Turkey and Europe into the UK.

It says it is actively looking at opportunities to expand its operations and investments across Europe and into the UK, where it has already started making investments in selected industries such as energy, food and beverage, hospitality and property.

Mustafa Yiğit Zeren, chairman and CEO of Zeren Group, said in a statement: “As we look to the future, we are excited about the prospect of expanding our footprint across Europe and in particular the UK, where we recognize this country’s dynamic energy market. Our presence in the UK is already firmly established via Laval Energy, an energy consultancy focused on project development, and we look forward to building out our capabilities.”
