CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu Calls for Cyber Defense
CHP Deputy Chairman of National Defense Policies Yankı Bağcıoğlu made important assessments following the recent publication of Turkey’s 2024-2028 National Cyber Security Strategy and Action Plan. Bağcıoğlu drew attention to the fact that cyber warfare, electronic warfare, assassination and sabotage activities have become fundamental types of warfare in today’s operational environment.
Bağcıoğlu called for cyber defense exercises to be conducted across Türkiye and said: “Paging devices and handheld radios have become weapons. As our dependence on digital technology increases, our national security is also threatened. This situation endangers the security of our country and makes it necessary to take urgent measures in light of developments in the region.”
CYBER DEFENSE DRILLS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT
In this context, Bağcıoğlu emphasized that a comprehensive cyber defense exercise should be carried out as soon as possible with the participation of all state institutions and critical private sector actors. Stating that the exercise should be organized to cover all possible scenarios, Bağcıoğlu said the following:
- “The exercise should be carried out in different stages and days if necessary.”
- “All government institutions, including civilian and military elements, should participate in this exercise.”
Bağcıoğlu emphasized that the drill should not be done just “for the sake of doing it” and drew attention to the successful earthquake drill that was held before the February 6 earthquakes. He concluded his speech by saying, “The events that occurred after the earthquake are still on our minds. The same mistakes should not be made again and the necessary preparations should be made seriously.”
