The Ankara-Istanbul line, operational since 2014, benefits from the integration of European Train Control System (ETCS) Levels 1 and 2. These technologies, alongside upgraded interlockings, ensure compatibility with European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) protocols.
Passengers enjoy faster travel times and improved service frequency, aligning with Türkiye’s goal to become a major transit hub. Carlos Mezquita, Hitachi Rail’s regional director, highlights the project’s strategic importance for regional connectivity.
Türkiye’s High-Speed Rail Network Reduces Travel Times
On the Ankara-Sivas route, advanced signalling systems have cut travel time from 12 hours to just two hours. This segment allows trains to operate at speeds of up to 250km per hour, showcasing remarkable efficiency.
The line is part of the Edirne-Kars rail corridor, a vital link connecting Europe and the Middle East. These upgrades strengthen Türkiye’s position as a key transportation hub, boosting economic development across regions.
Hitachi Rail collaborates with Turkish State Railways (TCDD) to modernise key segments, including Elmadag and Kirikkale interlockings. Additional investments in rolling stock and software ensure efficient operations on Türkiye’s expanding rail network.
This modernisation of Türkiye’s High-Speed Rail Network not only aligns with global standards but also enhances regional connectivity. The upgrades ensure faster, more efficient journeys, benefiting passengers and the broader economy.
