Türkiye introduced its first quantum computer, QuanT (Quantum Computer of TOBB ETU), developed by TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETU).

The unveiling ceremony, held at TOBB ETU’s Technology Center, was attended by Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz.

Advancing quantum technology

The initiative marks a significant milestone for Türkiye’s technology sector. TOBB ETU’s new quantum computer operates on a 5-qubit system and is designed to perform millions of times faster than conventional computers, revolutionizing areas like cryptography, artificial intelligence and optimization.

TOBB ETU Rector Professor Yusuf Sarinay stated: “The quantum computer will contribute to Türkiye’s technological development and accelerate efforts to reduce dependency on foreign technology.”

Strategic importance of QuanT

TOBB President Rifat Hisarciklioglu emphasized QuanT’s potential to elevate Türkiye’s competitive edge in global markets. “QuanT is not just a technological milestone; it symbolizes Türkiye’s commitment to innovation and independence,” he said.

Hisarciklioglu highlighted its applications in fields such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and national defense, predicting it will transform sectors requiring complex computational capabilities.

Superconducting chip facility planned

Efforts are underway to expand quantum capabilities. Supported by the Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB), TOBB ETU and Aselsan are set to establish a Superconducting Chip Manufacturing Facility to enhance quantum computing technologies.

SSB Chairman Haluk Gorgun noted: “This facility will enable the production of superconducting chips and further establish Türkiye’s role as a leader in quantum technology.”

Gorgun also discussed ongoing projects, including the development of microwave quantum radar components, signaling Türkiye’s intention to lead in the defense and technology sectors.
