Starting in 2025, Türkiye has implemented a substantial increase in traffic fines, with penalties rising by 43.93% to reflect the revaluation rate determined by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.

The new fines, which came into effect immediately, aim to promote safer driving and stricter adherence to traffic rules nationwide.

One of the most significant changes to Türkiye traffic fines in 2025 targets the unauthorized use of flashing lights or sirens.

Drivers caught installing or using these devices without proper authorization will face fines of ₺138,172 ($3,906.51) for the first offense. Repeat violations within a year will result in a staggering ₺276,345 ($7,812.65) penalty.

Fines for everyday violations

Common infractions such as illegal parking, improper lane changes, or failing to follow passenger drop-off rules will cost drivers ₺993. Other violations, including neglecting to wear seat belts, helmets, or protective eyewear, fall under this category.

Misusing emergency lanes will incur a fine of ₺9,267 ($28.07) while parking in spaces reserved for people with disabilities will result in a ₺1,986 ($56.15) penalty.

Overloading and hazardous transport

In 2025, Türkiye traffic fines for overloading vehicles have been significantly raised. Drivers exceeding weight limits face fines ranging from ₺8,463 ($239.26) to ₺51,026, ($1,442.57) depending on the severity of the violation. Those carrying hazardous materials without a permit will be fined ₺4,198 ($118.68).

Red lights and speeding infractions

Running red lights, using mobile phones while driving, or failing to carry a driver’s license will result in fines of ₺2,167. Speeding violations are heavily penalized:

  • 10%–30% over the limit: ₺2,167 ($61.26)
  • 30%–50% over the limit: ₺4,512 ($127.56)
  • 50%+ over the limit: ₺9,267 ($261.99)

Repeat speeding offenses—five or more violations exceeding 50% of the limit—will lead to a one-year suspension of the driver’s license.

Alcohol and drug-related penalties

  • Alcohol: Fines start at ₺9,267 ($261.99) for the first offense, escalating to ₺18,677 ($528.02) for repeated violations. Licenses may be suspended for up to five years.
  • Drugs: Driving under the influence of drugs results in a ₺47,842 ($1,353.41) fine and a five-year suspension.

Refusing alcohol or drug testing carries a penalty of ₺26,557. ($750.80)
