Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayrakta, announced that an energy delegation will visit Syria to assess the country’s electricity infrastructure and propose solutions to address ongoing energy challenges.

Speaking to reporters after a Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Complex, Bayraktar emphasized the urgency of stabilizing Syria’s power grid.

“The primary issue in Syria is electricity. A delegation from our ministry will soon visit the country to inspect the infrastructure and propose collaborative solutions,” Bayraktar stated.

Electricity assistance for Lebanon also under consideration

Minister Bayraktar also addressed electricity shortages in Lebanon, referencing discussions with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

“Last week, Prime Minister Mikati highlighted the ongoing electricity crisis in Lebanon. We are also considering potential electricity flow solutions for Lebanon in the near future,” Bayraktar said.

Türkiye’s broader infrastructure efforts for Syria

In addition to addressing Syria’s electricity needs, Türkiye aims to support other essential infrastructure projects in the region.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu previously mentioned initiatives to restore and improve Syria’s transport networks, including airports, railways, and critical road connections such as the M4 and M5 highways.

“We are working on repairing destroyed bridges and reestablishing transportation routes. Basic communication systems, including landlines, are non-functional in many areas. These challenges must be addressed,” Uraloglu said.

“We will sign a maritime jurisdiction agreement with Syria and implement an urgent action plan for air, rail, road, and communication services. Airports will be reactivated,” he said.
