Türkiye is going to build a 200-kilometre double track railway along the Black Sea coast. The railway is supposed to decongest traffic across the Bosphorus Strait and grow the transportation capacity of local coal, iron and steel businesses.
The line will be built along the towns of Kocaali, Akçakoca, Alaplı, Ereğli, Çaycuma and Bartın, which are located slightly east of Istanbul. It is supposed to be connected to another ongoing rail project, which is going to link up the city of Adapazarı to a port on the Black Sea coast, according to a politician from the ruling AK Party.
It will also be connected to a number of other rail arteries, the politician specified. “This new railway, designed as a continuation of the 65-kilometre long Adapazarı – Karasu Port railway, which is currently under construction, will connect to the Karabük – Zonguldak and Ankara – Istanbul national railways”, he said.
Coal, iron, steel
Moreover, it “will enable the iron ore, coal production inputs and iron and steel products from the Ereğli iron and steel and Karabük iron and steel factories to be transported to the Marmara region more economically.”
As a result, traffic across the Bosphorus Strait will supposedly be decongested. “This project will make significant contributions to the Turkish economy by increasing the logistics capacity of the region”, the politician concluded.
