Türkiye Jails Builder of Quake-Razed Block for 865 Years | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Türkiye has jailed a builder for 865 years. Turkish contractor Hasan Alpargun has been found guilty of gross negligence during the construction of a building in Adana which collapsed during the deadly 2023 earthquake in Kahramanmaras leading to the death of nearly 100 people. He has been sentenced to 62 lifers and 865 years in prison. In February 2023, Türkiye was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The tremors were felt in Southern Türkiye and Northern Syria. After the earthquake, Türkiye arrested more than 250 people involved in the construction of the buildings which either collapsed or got damaged.
