Türkiye is gearing up to support the reconstruction of Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. Key projects include revitalizing Ottoman-era railways, constructing high-speed train lines, and building metro systems in Damascus and Aleppo.
The new Syrian administration has sought Türkiye’s expertise, especially in transportation and infrastructure, to rebuild the nation.
Transport infrastructure becomes priority
Türkiye Gazetesi reports that Türkiye is committed to aiding Syria in returning to normalcy, particularly in trade and logistics. The projects will focus on restoring commercial activities and developing infrastructure to facilitate freight transport between the two nations.
Plans include repairing historical railways, initiating metro systems in major cities, and improving road and sea transport links. One prominent initiative involves establishing maritime transport routes between Antakya, Mersin and Latakia.
Upgrades for Syrian airports
Türkiye is also set to address infrastructure deficiencies in Syria’s airports, prioritizing Damascus and Aleppo.
Turkish teams have conducted assessments and identified critical areas for improvement, such as installing X-ray devices and detectors, repairing runways and upgrading radar systems. Preparations to implement these improvements are already underway.
Bridging nations with collaborative efforts
As Türkiye offers its extensive experience in rebuilding infrastructure, the collaborative projects signal a new chapter in the Türkiye-Syria relations.
These initiatives aim not only to enhance connectivity but also to foster long-term economic stability in the region.
