The Greek Islands off the western coast of Turkey, in particular Samos, have stolen the hearts of thousands of Turkish tourists, who have flocked to the cluster of Greek isles in the eastern Aegean Sea during the summer.
According to the popular German news site Focus.de, the rise in the number of Turkish holidaymakers is partly attributed to the Visa Express scheme, which facilitates short-term visits (1–7 days) to ten Greek islands for Turkish nationals.
Samos, located just a mile off the western coast of Turkey, appears to be the favorite destination for visitors from across the Aegean Sea, with females, in particular, lauding the home of the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras for its top services and affordable prices compared to Turkish resorts.
Turkish online news site Haber Ekspres also sings the praises of Samos as a hot spot for Turkish travelers, highlighting its proximity and easy access via ferry boat.
The Turkish medium draws attention to the island’s historical and natural offerings, which are bound to captivate visitors, while also writing about its rich flora with olive trees, pine forests, and vineyards draping the island all around.
It writes: “This lush greenery meeting the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean is a paradise for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility.”
The beautiful town of Karlovasi, situated on the west side of Samos, is also worth visiting, the Turkish site explains, mentioning its trails interwoven with greenery, history, and local wines. “The walking paths are suitable for both amateur hikers and more experienced athletes. For nature enthusiasts, Kerkis is highly recommended for its stunning views and unique beauty,” Haber Ekspres notes.
In an effort to further boost its presence in the Turkish market and attract even more Turkish tourists, the municipality of western Samos is exploring cooperation with partners in the tourism sector.
