Turkish President Erdogan seeks meeting with Kamala Harris, media reports – Türkiye Today

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is reportedly seeking a meeting with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in New York ahead of the U.N. General Assembly next week, in an effort to maintain the recent improvement in ties between Türkiye and the United States.

Erdogan expected to meet with Kamala Harris, Tim Walz

According to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Bloomberg, Erdogan is awaiting a response from Harris, who is expected to be in New York for a fundraising event on Sunday.

Additionally, Erdogan is open to meeting with vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz, the sources said.

Harris recently announced that her vice presidential running mate for the November elections is Minnesota Gov. Walz.

Both Erdogan’s office and the Turkish Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the matter, while the White House has yet to respond to a request for comment to Bloomberg.

Erdogan to speak in New York

Erdogan will travel to the U.S. on Saturday for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Erdogan will address the world on the first day of the general assembly.

It has been learned that Erdogan will hold diplomatic meetings with many world leaders, and his speech is expected to include historic messages, especially on the issue of Palestine.

Erdogan is expected to emphasize the need for increased international pressure on Israel through the U.N., call for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, and encourage more countries to recognize Palestine.
