Buyutech, Türkiye’s first and only domestic high-tech camera design and manufacturing company, aims to become the country’s newest unicorn—a privately-held startup valued at over $1 billion.
The Turkish technology company designs, develops and manufactures cameras that enable vehicles to perceive their surroundings, striving to make autonomous driving a reality with scalable and cost-effective solutions.
Since 2020, Buyutech focused on the automotive sector and has already deployed over 300,000 cameras across 120 countries.
In 2023, the company established Türkiye’s first automotive-grade camera production facility.
Buyutech secured partnerships with leading companies in a short time, including Togg, Stellantis, Ford Trucks and Hidromek, to integrate their cameras into a variety of vehicles.
Through two investment rounds, Buyutech raised $7 million, signed contracts worth $70 million, expanded its team tenfold, and increased its revenue fortyfold. The company also has an additional potential contract value of around $160 million.
Buyutech currently has an annual production capacity of 800,000 cameras, which can be expanded to 3 million units with modest investments.
Equipping vehicles with advanced domestic cameras
Buyutech’s Driver Fatigue Detection Camera System, developed with the vision of “a world without traffic accidents,” has been deployed in Togg vehicles and will be incorporated in Ford Trucks starting in 2026.
This system monitors the driver’s attention, fatigue, and distraction levels, issuing alerts when needed. As the level of vehicle autonomy increases, the system will eventually enable vehicles to pull themselves over safely.
The company’s Surround View Camera System offers a 360-degree view around the vehicle, enhancing driver awareness, reducing blind spots and preventing collisions while parking.
This system, already used in Togg, will also be available in Tofas models starting February and is being utilized in Hidromek construction machinery.
In addition to its camera systems, Buyutech is working on a new-generation technology called “Podar,” an advanced passive detection solution capable of identifying objects in all weather conditions.
From 2026 onward, it is estimated that all vehicles in Europe will be required to have at least three cameras—potentially rising to five per vehicle—and that this number will increase to 20 with “Level 3” autonomous vehicles, significantly expanding the smart camera market.
New investment to pave the way for ‘unicorn’
To support its growth ahead of an initial public offering (IPO)—the process of offering shares of a private company to the public—Buyutech has launched a new investment round through its Venture Capital Investment Fund, aiming to raise $15 million over the next three years.
With expanded investments, a growing product and customer portfolio and increased presence in global markets, Buyutech is targeting a valuation of $1 billion by 2028 to achieve “unicorn” status, with plans for an IPO by 2030.
