Turkish and Romanian tourism agencies came together in Bucharest on 1st of October at the event organized by Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) with the support of Turkish Airlines. Representatives of approximately 70 tourism agencies operating in Romania attended the destination showcase event held at Grand Hotel Bucharest. At the meeting, Türkiye’s cultural and religious tourism routes were introduced, b2b meetings started after the opening speeches.

Türkiye is a rising destination in the Romanian tourism market

Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Bucharest, stated that the number of tourists coming from Romania to Türkiye is increasing every year. While a total of 990,005 Romanian tourists visited Türkiye last year, this number reached 833,313 in the first eight months of this year. It is expected that the number of tourists coming from Romania to Türkiye will exceed 1 million 100 thousand by the end of 2024.

“Our countries share a profound connection, not only in terms of proximity—just 50 minutes from Istanbul and 100 minutes from Antalya—but also as I like to say, we are close  “in suflet” and “in inima”. This closeness is one of the reasons why so many tourists are drawn to Türkiye. Today’s meeting highlights the deep ties between our nations, and I am confident that we will continue to strengthen these bonds. I look forward to promoting the beauty and richness of our countries to the Romanian people, fostering even greater collaboration in the future,” said Mr. Özgür Kıvanç Altan, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Bucharest.

The regulation, which allows Romanian citizens to enter Türkiye only with their identity documents for touristic purposes, came into force on May 21, 2024. Thanks to this facility of travel, a significant increase is expected in the number of tourists from Romania to Türkiye in the coming years.

Promoting different destinations

At the event, was attended by tourism sector representatives from Türkiye and Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency officials, tourism possibilities in Cappadocia and Istanbul, as well as Türkiye’s lesser-known destinations such as the Seven Churches Route, were introduced.

Tourism agencies coming not only from Bucharest but also from various cities in Romania had the opportunity to meet and establish partnerships with important tourism representatives of Türkiye within the scope of the event.

Trip reward for agencies

As a result of the draw held within the scope of the event, six agency representatives won the right to participate in the fam trip to be held in Türkiye in November. Within the scope of the trip organized with the support of Turkish Airlines, the Seven Churches Route, which is considered the first seven churches of Christianity, will be visited.
