Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says he hopes the rebel advance in Syria will continue without any incidents.
“As of now, Idlib, Hama, Homs and the target is of course Damascus. This march of the opposition continues … Our wish is that this march in Syria will continue without any accidents and troubles,” Erdoğan tells reporters in Istanbul.
This is the Turkish president’s first public remarks of support to rebel advance in Syria since the clashes reignited in the war-torn country’s north over a week ago.
Erdoğan’s statement comes a day ahead of talks between Turkey, Iran and Russia on Syria in Qatar’s Doha.
“We had made a call to (Syrian President Bashar) Assad, to say ‘come, let us meet and determine the future of Syria together’. Unfortunately, we could not get a positive response from Assad,” Erdoğan concluded on Friday.
