Turkey’s Botas signs 10-Year LNG deal with Shell

Turkey’s state energy company Botas has signed a deal with Shell to purchase 4bn m³/year of LNG, the company announced on September 2.

Under the 10-year agreement, Shell International Trading Middle East, a subsidiary of Shell, will begin supplying the LNG in 2027. The deal will allow Botas to expand its LNG access and utilise its terminal and pipeline infrastructure, aiding Turkey in diversifying its gas resources and becoming a significant regional gas hub, according to the company.

“Our goal in natural gas, 99% of which we imported until the discovery of Black Sea Gas, is to diversify the supply side and offer natural gas to our citizens and industry at more competitive and affordable rates,” said Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

In recent months, Botas has signed several LNG agreements. In May, the company finalised a 10-year deal with US major ExxonMobil, and in April, it signed a similar agreement with Oman LNG.
