British tourists planning a holiday to Turkey have been warned to stay vigilant following reports of a “big-time scam” circulating in a resort.

The warning comes from Scott, a content creator documenting life in Turkey under the TikTok handle @official_scottylum2, who recently shared a video to alert potential visitors to a series of scams at Armutalan, Marmaris.

In the video, which has since gone viral with over 70,000 views, Scott detailed several issues that travellers should be cautious of during their stay.

He urged tourists to be particularly careful when using their bank cards, noting that he himself fell victim to a scam involving the theft of a “considerable amount of money.”

Without delving into the specifics of his experience, Scott warned: “Try to not bring your bank card out. Be careful of people looking at you while you type your card number in.”

The TikTok creator also highlighted potential scams involving alcoholic drinks served at local bars.

He warned tourists to be wary of staff preparing “concoctions” of different alcohols and specifically advised against ordering “fishbowls” without checking what they contain.

To avoid any surprises, Scott recommended paying for drinks individually, as some tourists have reportedly found additional items added to their bills.

“Be very vigilant here. Now, also be very careful of the drinks here. I’ve made a video about this before.

“Just be very careful with them,” Scott reiterated.

He added that while these incidents aren’t widespread, they can happen unexpectedly, and remaining alert is key to avoiding trouble.

The post generated a range of responses, with viewers weighing in on their personal experiences in Marmaris.

One commenter said: “I’ve been to Marmaris for years, and it’s always been fine for me.”

Another shared: “I lived in Armutalan and was very safe walking home at 2am.”

However, other tourists agreed with Scott’s caution, with one person saying: “Armutalan is my favourite, but I’ve just come back, and this year you do need to keep your wits about you. The area is lovely, staff is not pushy at all.”
