A Dec. 22 presidential decree lifted Turkey’s visa requirement for United States, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Oman nationals. Tourists from these countries can spend 90 of 180 days in Turkey without a visa.

The decree was published in the Official Gazette dated Dec. 23 with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s signature.

Turkey previously required the foreign nationals of the six countries to obtain an e-visa for tourism and trade purposes. The electronic visa costs between 61.50 to 78.50 US dollars depending on the applicant’s nationality.

According to Article 18 of the Turkish Law on Foreigners and International Protection, Turkey’s president holds the right to unilaterally lift visa requirements of certain nationals, implement visa convenience measures, and determine visa durations.
