EAST BRIDGEWATER — By 12:20 p.m., more than 150 veterans and their families had already lined up outside Crocetti’s Oakdale Packing Co. in East Bridgewater for a free turkey event scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Veterans Day.

Town Administrator Charles Seelig and Veterans’ Service Officer Chris Buckley wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Crocetti’s Oakdale Packing for organizing and executing the hugely successful turkey drive on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

On Monday, from 1 to 3 p.m., veterans and their families walked away from the butcher shop at 378 Pleasant St. with a free holiday turkey.

“They really didn’t take any credit. They just wanted to give back to the community and its veterans. The goal was to give away 250 turkeys, but they gave away over 400,” Veterans’ Service Officer Buckley said. “This was the event’s first year, but we hope it will become an annual holiday tradition. We hope to continue to grow the event and partner with other businesses to make this a bigger event each year.”

The Crocetti Family said it was honored and truly grateful for being able to distribute over 400 turkeys to local veterans and their families. The family thanked the East Bridgewater Police Department, East Bridgewater Fire Department and East Bridgewater Veterans’ Services for their overwhelming support in making the event a huge success.

The following day, on Tuesday, Nov. 12, the East Bridgewater Council on Aging also hosted a lunch for veterans. More than 60 veterans and their families dined on chicken parmesan and ziti catered by Crocetti’s.
