Turkish businessman and Fenerbahce Sports Club High Council member Sadettin Saran has been barred from traveling abroad as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of illegal betting.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is conducting the investigation, which accuses Saran of promoting illegal betting activities. On January 8, the Istanbul 8th Criminal Judgeship of Peace imposed a judicial control measure restricting Saran from leaving the country.
The Prosecutor’s Office had previously clarified media reports suggesting Saran had been detained. In a December 26 statement, it confirmed that Saran provided testimony regarding claims that his media group had aired illegal betting advertisements during a football match broadcast. The office emphasized, “There is no situation involving detention.”
On December 3, Türkiye’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) fined Saran’s media platforms, S Sport and S Sport Plus, for allegedly airing advertisements promoting illegal betting.
The company, which broadcasts Spain’s La Liga and Italy’s Serie A football matches, had also temporarily halted league broadcasts, citing its inability to control advertising content displayed on the stadium panels.
