Turkish basketball professional Ilkan Karaman was hit by a drunk driver while waiting on the sidewalk in Datca municipality on Sunday and died. According to local media, Karaman was waiting for a friend when he was hit by a car moving along the sidewalk at high speed.
As a result, Karaman is reported to have been trapped under the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital but could not be saved, KosovaPress reports. It is known that the driver of the car was drunk and lost control of the car. An investigation has been launched against him and according to reports he has now been arrested. Karaman was drafted 57th overall by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2012 NBA Draft, but did not play a single NBA game for the New York team. In Turkey, he played for well-known teams such as Besiktas and Fenerbahçe and won the Turkish Cup (2013) and the Turkish League (2014). He has also played several times for the Turkish national team.
