An explosion followed by gunfire has killed at least three people and wounded 14 at the premises of a Turkish aerospace and defense company on Wednesday, confirmed Turkey’s interior minister, with at least two of the attackers dead.
Private NTV television initially reported that a group of assailants arrived at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) complex in a taxi during a security shift change. At least one of the attackers detonated a bomb at the entry point, while others managed to infiltrate the facility.
Gunfire Heard, Deaths Reported
NTV said gunfire was heard and that some personnel at the complex may have been taken hostage, although this has not been confirmed. Helicopters were seen flying above the premises, the station reported.
Turkey’s interior minister, Ali Yerlikaya, confirmed the attack on the premises of TUSAS has resulted in casualties.
“Unfortunately, we have martyrs and injured people following the attack,” Yerlikaya said on X.
First Responders Arrive
Emergency services, including security forces, ambulances, and firefighters, were dispatched to the site, while employees were moved to a safe area.
Since then, Selim Cirpanoglum, mayor of Kahramankazan, told The Associated Press that the attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries in Ankara had subsided. However, he did not provide additional details regarding the situation or the attackers involved.
It remains unclear who is responsible for the attack. Kurdish militants, the Islamic State group, and leftist extremists have carried out similar attacks in Turkey in the past. The authorities are investigating potential leads, but no group has claimed responsibility yet.
Further details, including further potential casualties or the extent of damage, have not yet been confirmed.
