The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) led a delegation of seven companies to Türkiye, focusing on new opportunities in the food trade and logistics sectors from 22nd to 28th September 2024.
Istanbul, Türkiye, 27 September 2024 — The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) concluded a successful business mission to Türkiye, taking seven Singaporean companies to explore emerging opportunities in the food trade and logistics sectors. The week-long trip, held from 22nd to 28th September 2024, included visits to key cities Istanbul and Izmir and was supported by Enterprise Singapore.
Türkiye’s logistics sector ranked among the top 15 emerging economies, holds significant appeal for Singaporean companies. With 2.5% of global logistics exports in 2023, Türkiye’s strategic location between Europe and Asia makes it a prime hub for collaboration. Additionally, food trade remains central to Singapore’s food security strategy, making this mission an important exploration of business ties in a key sector.
Participants began their journey in Istanbul with a seminar led by Sistem Global, a professional services company, offering insights into Türkiye’s business climate, investment opportunities, and legal frameworks for foreign investors. A notable interaction was with Singapore Airlines Cargo (Istanbul branch), where the delegation learned about regulatory and operational logistics in Türkiye.
One of the mission’s highlights was a visit to PSA/BDP in Istanbul, which showcased the logistics sector’s potential. PSA’s acquisition of BDP and Alișan Logistics emphasized the importance of Türkiye as a logistics hub and the role of Singaporean companies in these growing markets.
The delegation also engaged in roundtable discussions with the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEİK) and visited Turkish Airlines Cargo’s SmartIST facility, underscoring Türkiye’s advancements in air cargo operations. In Izmir, the group visited the Izmir Development Agency (İZKA), where discussions revolved around innovation, clean energy, and technology, sectors primed for future collaboration. The mission concluded with a networking dinner hosted by the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD), allowing delegates to forge new connections within Türkiye’s business ecosystem.
The participating Singaporean companies expressed their appreciation for the mission’s organization, citing valuable insights and potential partnerships in Türkiye’s expanding logistics and food trade sectors. The business delegation included Allied Container Services Pte Ltd, IFDI Capital Pte Ltd, IJOOZ AI Pte Ltd, Gimtronic Engineers Pte Ltd, Golden Wood Marketing Pte Ltd, KOW Pte Ltd, and NGarde Ventures Pte Ltd.
