New England’s First Serial Killer: The Northwood Murderer

DOVER — Monday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dover Public Library. On Sept. 24, 1872, 14-year-old Georgianna Lovering was brutally murdered in Northwood, N.H. Her uncle, Franklin Evans, would eventually confess to her murder and numerous other murders in New Hampshire, and Maine. This presentation will examine Franklin Evans and his murderous life as New England’s first serial killer through the use of period and modern photographs, maps, and newspaper sources. ‘A Walk Back in Time: The Secret of Cellar Holes’

WAKEFIELD – The Wakefield-Brookfield Historical Society has received a grant from New Hampshire Humanities for a program entitled “A Walk Back in Time: The Secret of Cellar Holes.”   Adair Mulligan will present information on this popular subject on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., in the historic Brookfield Town House, 265 Wentworth Road (Route 109) in Brookfield. Public panel discussion on immigration

PORTSMOUTH – How the Seacoast and the state are responding to refugees and asylum seekers will be the focus of a public panel discussion on immigration, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m., at the Portsmouth Library. The panel − Immigration: Global Issue/Local Action – will include a New Hampshire immigration lawyer and two Seacoast immigration activists. In addition to the forum, South Church, 292 State St., is hosting through October a display of 25 posters that trace U.S. immigration history. The posters are on loan from the Community Church of Durham and are hanging in the South Church parish hall.

Movie Night: A Quiet Place – Day One

DOVER — Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Get ready for Halloween by watching the 3rd in the “Quiet Place” series and trying not to scream in the Dover Public Library! You are welcome to bring snacks to enjoy during the film. The movie is rated PG-13.

Organ Dedication Recital

STRATHAM — Stratham Community Church is holding their dedicatory recital for the Sally Wool Memorial Organ featuring Dr. David von Behren, Assistant Organist and Choirmaster of the Memorial Church at Harvard University, on Friday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. with a reception to follow at 6 Emery Lane, Stratham. Admission is free to the general public. A free-will offering will be collected at the door; the proceeds will go to support Stratham Community Church’s Music Ministry.

Creepy Cookie & Cupcake Decorating

DOVER — Friday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. teens in grades 6-12 are invited to drop in to the Dover Public Library and decorate some creepy cupcakes and cookies with us! All supplies will be provided.

Halloween STEM Event

DOVER — Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. join the Dover Public Library for a fun STEM science event. We’ll explore the spooky side of science with this Halloween inspired program. Children aged 3-12 will best enjoy this event with their caregivers.

Fall Family Craft

MILTON — The Milton Free Public Library will have a fall family craft on Saturday, Oct. 12 between 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be assorted sizes and colors of fabric to create your own hot or cold pack. Fill it with rice, and drizzle with the essential oil of your choice for lovely aromatherapy.

Movie & Popcorn night

MILTON — The Milton Free Public Library will have a free movie and popcorn night on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. We will be showing Inside Out 2 (PG) on our big screen. Bring a cushion to sit on and your own drink with lid.
