Seventh match with the new coach – fifth defeat in a row. Once again, weakened Montenegro showed periods of good play in Samsun, but even after three rounds of the League of Nations, our national team is deep at the bottom of the group.
Robert Prosinecki’s men were defeated by Turkey away (1:0), and the Montenegrin coach is aware that the situation is far from ideal due to the defeat.
“We played with an excellent national team, which dominated certain moments of the game… We had our chances, even two excellent ones, where we could have reacted better, but we didn’t use them. I have nothing to complain about the boys, but this is the third losing in a row is not pleasant,” Prosinečki said to the press after the game.
The “Falcons” defended well almost in the 70th minute, they had their chances to shock the hosts, but above all, Nikola Krstović did not have his night.
“We had a good chance through him and who knows what direction the match would have gone if he had scored,” added Prosinečki.
On one occasion, the Leće striker was selfish when he did not pass to Vladimir Jovović, while on the other occasion, he got into trouble after a great pass from Stevan Jovetić.
“If he had given the ball to Jovović, who had an open path to the goal, it might have been a different story. There were opportunities for him, but I wouldn’t go back on that – it just happens,” emphasized the Croatian expert.
The tandem with yellow cards – Milutin Osmajić and Miloš Brnović – joined the list of injured players after the match in Samsun. And, the match with Wales is already in three days.
“We’ve lost three games and it’s a difficult situation for us, but we’re going to Cardiff and it’s the last chance to do something – we’re hoping for a good game in Wales.”
The nice story in the defeat is certainly the debutant Igor Nikić, who was safe between the posts, while he could not do anything at the goal of Irfan Kaveči.
“He performed excellently, he was confident and cool-headed. We have to look to the future, Milan Mijatović is quite old…” concluded Prosinečki.
