The meeting on confidence building measures between the Greek and Turkish delegations has concluded in Istanbul, some 24 hours before the arrival in Athens of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The two delegations comprised ambassadors, high-ranking military officers and other officials. According to a statement from the Defense Ministry in Athens, the meeting, which was hosted by its Turkish counterpart, was held in a positive atmosphere.
“During the meeting, the two parties reviewed the planned 2024 confidence building measures and discussed the implementation of the mutually agreed confidence building measures activities for 2025,” the statement read.
The next meeting will be hosted in Greece.
On Friday morning at 10.30 a.m., Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis will welcome Fidan to the Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a diplomatic source.
The same source said that a private meeting between the two ministers will take place before extended talks between the two delegations will take place.
Joint statements to the press will follow at around 12:30 p.m. The two sides will then sit for a working lunch.
