Parliament Budget Session Live: The Lower House, Lok Sabha, has adjourned proceedings for the day until 11 am on Wednesday.

Today, Lok Sabha deliberated on a bill aiming to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Castes Order, 1956, to include ‘Valmiki’ in the list of SCs in the union territory. Additionally, a bill was discussed to incorporate the communities of “Gadda Brahmin”, “Koli”, “Paddari Tribe”, and “Pahari Ethnic Group” into the list of Scheduled Tribes in Jammu and Kashmir.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar introduced the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order Bill 2023 for consideration and passage. Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda presented the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill 2023.

Parliament Budget Session Live: The current Budget session of Parliament is set to be prolonged by one day until Saturday, as announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. Sources indicate that the government intends to present a ‘white paper’ contrasting the condition of the Indian economy pre and post-2014. Originally scheduled to conclude on February 9, the session commenced on January 31.

Parliament Budget Session Live: The Rajya Sabha passed two bills today to revise the list of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Through voice vote, the Upper House approved the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

The first bill focuses on altering the list of Scheduled Tribes in Andhra Pradesh, while the second one aims to modify the list of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Odisha.

Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda introduced both bills in the upper house.

While speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, minister of tribal affairs Arjun Munda said government wants to provide justice to people living in remote areas of the country. Munda informed that new types of tribals from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been added to the constitutional list.

During the proceedings of the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, controversey erupted after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP TR Baalu called Union MoS L Murugan ‘unfit to be a minister’, a remark which the Bharatiya Janata Party said is an insult to the entire Dalit community, reported news agency ANI.

On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha has taken up for consideration the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

In the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister Arjun Munda will move the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 further to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in relation to the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will move the Finance Bill, 2024 for its consideration and passage in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav will move the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Bill, 2024 further to amend the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. The Bill will be moved in the Rajya Sabha for its consideration and passage.
