Pamukkale, one of Türkiye’s most iconic tourist attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage site in Denizli, saw a significant rise in visitors this year, with 1.7 million tourists flocking to its travertine terraces, ancient ruins, and thermal pools in the first eight months.
This marks a 12% increase compared to the same period last year.
Pamukkale: UNESCO World Heritage site drawing global tourists
The increase in visitors is largely attributed to the introduction of nighttime museum tours, which have added a new dimension to the Pamukkale experience.
The site, famous for its stunning white travertine terraces, the ancient city of Hierapolis, and the Cleopatra Pool, remains a major draw for both domestic and international tourists.
According to the Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TUROFED) Vice President Gazi Murat Sen, Pamukkale has become increasingly popular among international tourists. “When we examine the data from travel agencies, we see an increase from 480,000 to 530,000, showing a growing interest from foreign visitors in Pamukkale,” said Sen.
Impact of nighttime museum tours on Pamukkale tourism
With the ongoing popularity of nighttime museum tours and the recent opening of the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital in Karahayit, Sen expects Pamukkale to host around 2.9 million visitors by the end of the year.
He stated, “Although we initially aimed to welcome 3 million visitors this season, we are still on track to reach approximately 2.9 million by year’s end. The nighttime museum activities have been particularly effective this year, and we anticipate even greater demand for these tours next year, especially with increased promotion to travel agencies.”
Pamukkale’s year-round appeal, with its unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance, continues to make it one of Türkiye’s top tourist destinations.
