Yusuf Dikec, a celebrated Turkish sports shooter, reaffirmed his commitment to bringing home a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Speaking to Türkiye Daily after being named “Athlete of the Year” in the newspaper’s annual awards, Olympic shooter Dikec expressed his determination to achieve the goal that narrowly eluded him in Paris.
Yusuf Dikec’s determination to fulfill his promise of winning gold for Türkiye
“We missed the gold by a small margin in Paris, but I promised that I would win it in Los Angeles,” Dikec said. “If I remain healthy and conditions allow, that medal will come to Türkiye.”
Reflecting on his journey, he added, “Medals are momentary achievements. What matters is leaving a lasting legacy.”
Olympic shooter’s ambitious plans for double gold success at Los Angeles 2028
Dikec shared his ambitious plans for the 2028 Olympics. “This time, there could be two medals. I’m preparing not only for the 10-meter event but also for the 25-meter category,” he explained.
“Achieving this requires intense preparation. My team and I train six days a week without rest. We are fully committed to representing Türkiye in the best way possible.”
Muhammad Ali as inspiration and Yusuf Dikec’s cultural values
When asked about his role models, Dikec stated, “Muhammad Ali is the ultimate phenomenon in sports. However, I’ve always been driven by my own values.”
He emphasized the importance of cultural heritage, saying, “Being recognized as a phenomenon is an honor, but my goal has always been to win hearts. If you ask how I see myself, I would say, ‘I am a man of the heart.’”
Dikec also addressed the perception of fame. “People ask me, ‘What is it like to be a phenomenon?’ Honestly, it’s an ordinary feeling. I have never sought to be a phenomenon, and that idea has never changed my perspective on life,” he remarked.
Detailed preparation for key milestones in 2025 and beyond
Discussing his immediate goals, Dikec said, “In February, I will compete in the European Champions League, and in November, I’ll participate in the World Championship in Cairo. Both are crucial steps in my preparation.”
Looking ahead to the Olympic qualification process, he added, “The qualification races at the end of 2025 are our top priority. Every competition until then is part of the preparation process.”
Relentless dedication to training, representing Türkiye internationally
Dikec reflected on his rigorous training schedule, saying, “Week after week, my teammates and I train six days with no time for breaks. I rarely have time for leisure activities like cinema or theater, but I read books whenever I can.”
Discussing his recognition as “Athlete of the Year,” Dikec expressed gratitude. “Being appreciated for your success is wonderful,” he said. “I thank Türkiye Daily for this honor and for recognizing my efforts.”
With his sights firmly set on gold, Yusuf Dikec continues to inspire not only through his achievements but also with his dedication to representing Türkiye on the world stage.
