Galatasaray’s veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera has officially informed the club’s management of his decision to retire from professional football at the end of this season according to Turkish media outlet Milliyet.

After over 13 years with Galatasaray, Muslera’s future with the club had been a topic of speculation. Head coach Okan Buruk previously mentioned that the 38-year-old had been considering returning to his home country when his contract expires, noting, “He wanted to go back last year as well; his family is there, and he’s thinking about it.”

In a recent post-match interview after Galatasaray’s game against Besiktas, Muslera hinted at his future, remarking, “Some conversations are meant to be kept private.” According to Turkish media, however, the Uruguayan goalkeeper has now officially conveyed his retirement plans to the club.

He has shown interest in staying connected with Galatasaray, potentially transitioning into a leadership role within the organization. Over his career with the team, he has celebrated 17 trophies, including seven Turkish Super League titles.

In addition, Muslera recently purchased Sportivo Bella Italia, a third-division team in Uruguay, which suggests he may already be mapping out his post-retirement plans.
