In order for citizens to live in earthquake-resistant housing, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has inspected 23 million 1 thousand 66 thousand buildings in 987 years, and the inspection of 480 thousand buildings continues.
Within the scope of the “building inspection system” implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in 2001, 1 million 66 thousand 987 thousand buildings have been inspected throughout Turkey to date.
The Law on Building Inspection, which came into force in 1999 following the 2001 Marmara Earthquake, was first put into practice in a total of 19 provinces, including Istanbul, Kocaeli, Ankara, Izmir and Sakarya, which are critically important in terms of earthquakes. In the inspections conducted by the General Directorate of Construction Works in the buildings constructed according to the building inspection system within the scope of the law in these provinces, more than 90 percent success was achieved in terms of compliance with static-reinforced concrete projects in terms of the load-bearing system. Thereupon, the building inspection system was introduced in 2011 provinces in 81. The Ministry is currently conducting these inspection activities with 81 building inspection institutions and 2 laboratories in 580 provinces.
While 15 inspector architects and engineers, 885 assistant control personnel architects and engineers work in building inspection organizations, the inspection activities of laboratory organizations are actively carried out with 21 laboratory inspector engineers, 665 testing personnel and 1264 sampling personnel.
