Lumby resident Al Hale, centre, travelled to Turkey for cancer treatment.
A North Okanagan man has travelled half way around the world for cancer treatment.
Lumby resident Al Hale and his wife, Liz, have gone to Turkey for chemotherapy and other related cancer treatments.
“After feeling let down with our own health care in Canada, we made the choice to get a second opinion and ended up in Instanbul Turkey at Acibadem Health Services,” Liz posted on social media.
“The level of care here is absolutely amazing and we are very hopeful we made the right decision.”
The Hales operate Camo Country Weddings and Events in Trinity Valley near Lumby.
Al is also a collector of military vehicles and some 20 pieces in his collection including some very rare vehicles – such as a British tracked hauler of which only two were made.
He also has a British self-propelled 105mm gun, that he has brought to Remembrance Day ceremonies in the past.
Liz said it’s not only the medical care in Turkey that impressed her, it is the personal care by staff.
Liz said on chemo day “Oncologist Dr. Atakin Demir and his right hand not only had a birthday cake for Al, but also insisted on a photo together as well the girls in chemo ward also sang Happy Birthday and presented him with a cake.
“The level of care provided, as well as the amount of health care workers, is outstanding.”
