Thanksgiving is coming up in a few weeks and there have been repeated Tom Turkey sightings around the Juniata Valley. Whether its related to a music benefit or a gun raffle, the holiday will be here before we know it.
Check out these five things to do this weekend, many of which are related to the upcoming holiday:
Thanksgiving benefits
• Save Thanksgiving Benefit, hosted by the Big Tree Music and Art Foundation, 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Port Royal Community Building, 212 N. Fourth St., Port Royal. This year’s event features live music, 50/50 and basket raffles and food for sale by Guante’s Family Restaurant. The concert schedule is: Stan Hoke, 6:15 to 7 p.m., Tom Yoder, 7:15 to 8 p.m., Samuel Price and the Soft Diamond Special, 8:15 to 9 p.m. and Little Chicago Band featuring the Tie Yard Horns, 9:15 to 10 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Juniata County Food Pantry.
• Annual Turkey and Gun Raffle, hosted by the East Waterford Fire Co., 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, fire hall, 9607 Route 75, East Waterford. Doors and kitchen open at 5 p.m. Turkey raffle kicks off at 7 p.m., with the gun drawing following immediately after. Door prizes for those attendees, and rip tickets will be sold throughout the night.
Bazaars and gift sales
• Christmas Bazaar, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, social room, Port Royal Lutheran Church, 402 Market St., Port Royal. Shop new and slightly used Christmas items and holiday decorations. Enjoy baked goods, including cookies, snacks and various treats. Soup will be sold by the quart including chicken corn, ham and bean and beef vegetable as well as other baked goods including frozen pies.
• Mifflin County Music Boosters Holiday Expo, 9 a.m. Saturday, Mifflin County High School, Lewistown. More than 50 vendors, along with musical entertainment by students and a concession stand. Appearance by Santa Claus.
• 30th Annual Juniata Valley International Gifts Sale, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday (no bake sale) and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown. The sale supports world artisans and craftsmen through the sale of fair trade products. Fall Vendor Show, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Juniata Elementary School, 75 Seventh St., Mifflintown. Come for shopping, food and festivities.
Food fundraisers
Boys Scouts of America Troop 4 breakfast fundraiser, 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown. Menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for ages 5 to 10.
Mifflin County High School MiniTHON Spaghetti Dinner, noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown. Cost is $10. Dine in or takeout available.
Cash bingo
The Juniata High School boys soccer team will host cash bingo from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Port Royal Community Building, 212 N. Fourth St., Port Royal. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m., with games starting at 1:30 p.m. Regular game winnings will be $50; mini-jackpot of $250 and $750 for the grand prize. Concessions, 50/50 and basket raffles and rip tickets available. Proceeds benefit the soccer team.
