If you’re looking for inspiration for your next trip that is more “underrated” than other cities in Europe, then listen up. A travel-mad couple recently gushed about this country
Looking to travel somewhere a bit different for your next holiday? If you’re tired of going to the same old spots every year, you might want to give this destination a go. It’s been dubbed “Europe’s most underrated city” due to its stunning beauty and lower number of tourists.
So where is it, you may ask? A couple called Nadia and Irfan quit their jobs to travel the world a few years ago. And one of their most recent visits, to Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, left them stunned. Not only did they love the short flight time, gorgeous scenery and food, they were also stunned by how affordable it is there.
In a TikTok video, Nadia assured: “This place will blow your mind.” She then went on to detail more information about the trip, explaining that her family had jetted of from London Stansted to Sarajevo.
The trip took around two-and-a-half hours and they loved landing surrounded by the “pretty” mountain views. The family then took a taxi into the centre – and gushed about what they found there.

Nadia said: “The vibe here is so cool. It’s got a Turkish vibe mixed with European.” And Irfan added: “It’s a Muslim country but you’re in Europe. This could be like a little quaint town in Spain somewhere”.
The mum recommends staying in the historic town of Baščaršija because it is close to many of the main sites. She also pointed out that there’s plenty of delicious halal food available there.
They listed the “next level” halal food spots as Cevabzinica Petica-Ferhatovic – for a “real taste of Sarajevo” – plus SA for brunch, “hidden gem” restaurant Avlija, burgers at Sah Mat, Dveri for authentic Bosnian dining, pizzas at Margherita, and Naafa for Palestinian food.
The couple were pleased that the holiday didn’t break the bank, either. Nadia said: “It feels like our money goes so much further here, especially when it comes to food and transport.”
One downside was that Nadia and Irfan “couldn’t believe” people are still allowed to smoke indoors in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They were also disappointed that they couldn’t find any taxi apps – but this isn’t the end of the world. Nadia added: “You’ll have to catch a taxi the old-fashioned way.”
The pair’s TikTok video has garnered 2,600 likes and plenty of positive comments. One responder gushed: “Definitely a hidden gem – beautiful country.” Another said: “I went to Sarajevo, very beautiful.”
A third wrote: “Love it, definitely want to go now! Thank you for sharing.” And a fourth added: “Thank you for sharing Bosnia with the world!”
