Ericsson has unveiled insights emphasising the growing impact of 5G on connectivity, user experiences, and digital innovation in the country.
November 2024 Ericsson Mobility Report forecasts that, despite economic challenges, the growth trend of 5G will continue to rise, with global 5G subscriptions expected to reach 6.3 billion by 2030, accounting for 80% of mobile data traffic. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, 5G is projected to represent 60% of subscriptions by 2030, positioning Türkiye as a vital market poised to harness the full potential of 5G advancements.
The latest ConsumerLab Report highlights consumer trends on how digital services are currently used, consumer perceptions of 5G, and factors that could enhance network experiences. It also reveals a growing appetite for differentiated connectivity, with 35% of global 5G users willing to pay a premium for guaranteed high-performance connectivity. This demand is fueled by the increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven applications, such as Generative AI, which is predicted to see weekly usage increase 2.5 times in the next five years.
In Türkiye, these trends are expected to reshape digital experiences, from AI-powered apps to streaming, gaming, and mobile financial solutions. According to the ConsumerLab study, consumers increasingly value network reliability and speed as critical to enhancing their digital experiences, indicating that 5G could redefine connectivity expectations in the country.
Globally, the adoption of 5G Standalone (5G SA) and 5G Advanced technologies is accelerating. Currently deployed by fewer than 20% of communication service providers (CSPs), these advanced technologies are projected to support 60% of global 5G subscriptions by 2030. In Türkiye, the rollout of 5G SA and 5G Advanced will pave the way for innovative services such as network slicing, low-latency applications, and massive IoT. Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) powered by 5G SA and network slicing allows customers to enjoy guaranteed bandwidth and latency. These capabilities will address both consumer and enterprise needs, driving Türkiye’s digital transformation and unlocking significant economic potential.
5G drives digital transformation in today’s dynamic business environment by providing flexible and secure private networks, wireless wide area network (WWAN), and neutral-host solutions. By adopting 5G, enterprises can unlock innovation, growth, efficiency, and agility, ensuring competitiveness in a connected world.
Işıl Yalçın, the head of Ericsson Türkiye at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, said, “Ericsson’s latest global research highlights the immense potential of 5G for Türkiye to drive digitalisation and redefine consumer and business experiences. The insights from our ConsumerLab study show a clear demand for better network performance, especially as digital services evolve. Advanced 5G technologies like Standalone and 5G Advanced will meet these expectations, enhancing user experiences and empowering industries with unparalleled connectivity solutions.”
The November 2024 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report and the ConsumerLab research also highlight revenue opportunities for CSPs transitioning to performance-based business models. By offering tailored connectivity plans that prioritise Quality on Demand (QoD), CSPs can drive a 5-12% uplift in Average Revenue per User (ARPU). Exposing network application programming interfaces (APIs) to developers further enables premium app experiences, with one in three 5G users willing to reallocate 10% of their current app spending toward applications that feature integrated, high-performance connectivity.
With Ericsson’s support, Türkiye is poised to benefit from advanced 5G capabilities, fueling digital transformation across sectors such as healthcare, smart cities and e-learning, and fostering new opportunities for both consumers and businesses.
