Donald Trump Jr. has congratulated Kimberly Guilfoyle on her nomination as the next American ambassador to Greece amidst an unconfirmed report the couple’s engagement is “over,” with the incoming president’s son being romantically linked to socialite Bettina Anderson.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, following his father’s announcement, Trump Jr. wrote: “I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First.”

On December 11, the Daily Mail reported Trump Jr.’s engagement to Guilfoyle, who was formerly married to now California Governor Gavin Newsom, was “over.” Speaking to the publication, a “source familiar with the family” said the couple were “waiting until after the inauguration” to announce their split. Trump is due to be inaugurated as president for the second time on January 20, 2025.

In September, the Daily Mail said Guilfoyle was “blindsided” after it published photographs of Trump Jr. having an intimate lunch with Anderson at The Honor Bar in Palm Beach, Florida. The publication reported the pair were “seen kissing several times during the meal.”

The Daily Mail also said Trump Jr. took Anderson, daughter of banker Harry Loy Anderson Jr., for dinner on December 6 to celebrate her 38th birthday. In an Instagram story post, Anderson shared photographs of the meal including a bottle of 2013 Salon champagne being poured, with the captions “S is for Spoiled” and “How sweet it is to be loved by you.”

Newsweek contacted Donald Trump Jr. via the Trump Organization press office along with Kimberly Guilfoyle and Bettina Anderson via Instagram direct message for comment on Wednesday outside of regular office hours.

Trump announced he had nominated Guilfoyle to be the next U.S. ambassador to Greece on his Truth Social website on Tuesday, commenting: “For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally. Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad.”

To be confirmed as ambassador following Trump’s inauguration, Guilfoyle must first be confirmed by the Senate.

In a post on X, Guilfoyle said she was “honored to accept” the nomination, adding: “As ambassador, I look forward to delivering on the Trump agenda, supporting our Greek allies, and ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity.”

Trump has a long track record of appointing family members to key roles. In November, he announced Charles Kushner, a businessman and Ivanka Trump‘s father-in-law, had been nominated as the next U.S. ambassador to France, whilst Tiffany Trump’s father-in-law Massad Boulos was nominated as a senior Middle Eastern advisor.

Lara Trump, Eric Trump‘s wife, was co-chair of the Republican National Committee until earlier this week amidst speculation she could seek the Florida Senate seat formerly occupied by Marco Rubio. During Trump’s first administration both Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner served as senior advisors.

Trump Jr. has five children from his marriage to Vanessa Trump, which lasted from 2005 to 2018. These included 17-year-old Kai Trump, who recently picked up a considerable YouTube following documenting her life and interactions with her grandfather.
