Chinese automotive giant BYD has selected Forvia, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, to support its upcoming factory in Türkiye, set to produce electric and hybrid vehicles. The factory, located in Manisa, marks a major step in BYD’s European expansion.

Forvia to supply key components for electric vehicles

Forvia, based in France, will provide a range of products including interior solutions, safety and lighting systems, and sustainable composite parts for the vehicles produced at BYD’s new facility. Forvia already serves as a key supplier for BYD’s operations in Hungary and will now expand its role in Türkiye.

BYD’s $1 billion investment and 5,000 jobs

BYD’s investment in Türkiye was formalized in July 2023 through an agreement with Türkiye’s Ministry of Industry and Technology, spearheaded by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The facility in Manisa will represent a $1 billion investment, with plans to manufacture 150,000 electric and hybrid vehicles annually and provide 5,000 jobs.

Construction timeline and production plans

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the factory began in October 2023, and construction is expected to start in 2025, with production commencing by the first quarter of 2026.

The facility will include various production lines such as battery assembly, motor production, and other key components necessary for electric vehicle manufacturing.
