Runners shed calories before Thanksgiving meals by competing in the 12th annual Lake Jackson Turkey Trot.
The Lake Jackson Turkey Trot is an usual 5K and 10K run, walk and kids fun run to benefit the Lake Jackson Intermediate and Rasco Middle School bands.
In the male and female age divisions, there were winners in each age division: 14 years old and under, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79 and 80 and over. The Turkey Trot also had an open and masters division.
The top finisher in the 5K male open division was 16-year-old Brayden Smith with a time of 17 minutes, 30 seconds. The top female finisher was Lauren Stroud, who finished at 17:33. Arkady Krasovskiy, at 20:08, finished first in the 5K male masters division and Tiffany Whipple, at 22:41, claimed first in the female masters division.
Grant Challenger dominated the 5K male 14-and-under competition, crossing the line at 18:14, more than four minutes faster than second place. A. Polatbekov took second with a time of 22:41, and third was Caspian Collier at 24:42.
Giovani Diaz, 19, won the male 15 to 19 division with a time of 17:29, followed by Valentino Beacom-Casas, 17:40, and Charlie Patton, 18:05. Taking first in the 20 to 29 division was Evan Andress, 21, at 18:38, with Otniel Jaurez, 24:02, in second and Eliseo Cerda, 24:40, in third.
There was a tight race in the 30 to 39 division, with Robert Mata, 22:46, clipping Joey Bacica by five seconds. Omar Escobedo took third with a time of 24:09.
Michael Ortiz, 42, crossed the line at 21:50 to finish first in the 40 to 49 division. Michael Sanders, at 22:29, came in second, followed by Josh Hamit at 23:55.
Lake Jackson resident Brian Habeck, 55, took first with a time of 24:18 in the 50 to 59 age group, with Dennis Indian, 25:28, in second and Kendel Kandler, 26:21, in third.
Fred Garza, 62, secured first at 29:13, and 19 seconds later, Roland Rodriguez, 29:32, crossed second and Mark Wales, 30:53, took third in the 60 to 69 division. Lake Jackson’s Dan Walsh, 76, at 33:16, took first in the 70 to 79 division, followed by Robert Hefner Jr., 38:41, in second and Bill Behr, 43:20, in third.
Victor Barris, 88, was the lone male 5K runner over 80 years old. The Beeville resident finished the 5K in 1:00:07.
On the female side, Jaedyn Price, at 21:02, won the 14 and under division. Adilynn Smith, 25:16, took second, and B. Grantham, 26:09, finished in third. Out-of-town traveler Emma Breese, with a time of 20:23, won the 15 to 19 division, followed by Ava Andress at 23:06 and Lacey Langham at 26:05.
The top three in the 20 to 29 division finished within a minute of each other. Jenna Vela won at 29:53, followed by Brooks Hill at 30:14 and Kesley Lisowski at 30:44.
Freeport resident Viridiana Mata, 35, at 27:20, claimed first, eclipsing Katie Darakhshan at 28:16 and Holly Richards at 30:17 in the 30 to 39 division.
Yezmin Zavala, 44, won the 40 to 49 division with a time of 25:24. Amy Cannon, 26:00, and Martina Hernandez, 26:35, finished second and third, respectively.
In the 50 to 59 division, Veronica Padilla won at 28:42, followed by Tracy Page at 31:31 and Nancy Yung at 32:03.
Susan Smith, 61, had the sixth-best female time overall, easily winning the 60 to 69 division at 24:14. Margaret Bachman, 35:29, and Stephanie Ayala, 39:40, rounded out the top three.
The 70 to 79 and 80 and older divisions each had just one runner. Becky Ortiz, 70, completed the race in 1:09:33. Frances Campbell, 81, traveled from San Antonio and ran the course in 1:03:45.
In the 10K race, Tyson Gaspard, 38:47, and Leandra Thede, 43:26, were the male and female open division winners. Hugh Leidlein, 46:21, and Lena Nguyen, 44:46, won the masters division.
Trevor Kuhlman, 40:39, Benjamin Pottratz, 44:10, and Eddie Villegas, 44:11, represented the top three in the male 19 and under division. In the 20 to 29 division, Cameron Davis won with a time of 40:22, followed by Lucio Cruz Jr., 41:57, and Edmund Franklin II, 44:26.
Gaspard’s top overall time also won him the 30 to 39 division. Ryan Kirkpatrick, 42:09, and Timothy Kirkpatrick, 42:26, took second and third, respectively.
Freeport’s Maximillian Villalobos won the 40 to 49 division by more than 13 minutes with his time of 52:15. Renato Lopes, 1:05.49, and Paolo Damato, 1:07:24, finished second and third.
Mark Price, 57, finished at 47:40 to take first in the 50 to 59 division, followed by David Read, 52:54, and John Hall, 54:15.
Robert Johnston, 56:33, and Russell Langham, 1:11:12, were the lone two runners in the 60 to 69 division. There were no 10K runners older than 65.
In the female 19 and under 10K, M. Gomez took first, with a time of 1:00:53, followed by M. Crislip. Sweeny’s Daisey De Carlos, 45:26, won the 20 to 29 division. Madison Habeck, 46:17, and Bella Nieto, 55:14, rounded out the top three.
Colorado resident Mary Fox made the trip to Texas and won the 30 to 39 division with a time of 54:40. Hannah Thomas, 56:32, and Hollyann Flaminio, 57:33, took second and third.
The top three in the 40 to 49 division were all Lake Jackson residents. Jennifer Duchaney, 52:40, won the division, followed by Shelly Sanders, 54:12, and Natalia Vernor, 1:02:21.
Amy Morgan from Angleton won the 50 to 59 division at 55:54. Kristen Center Brown, 1:00:58, earned silver and Christian Carpenter, 1:02:39, occupied the final spot on the podium. Jane Leidlein, 55:29, earned first in the 60 to 69 division, followed by Leslie Bateman, 57:51, and Kathy Johnson, 1:18:22.
There were no runners in the 70 to 79 or 80 and older divisions.
