SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — As people get ready to feast, many may also be preparing to lace up their shoes and head out for a Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving.
Body N’ Sole, a running store in Savoy, said dressing in layers for outdoor activities is key — especially as it gets colder. That way you can peel off clothing as you get warmer with each mile.
One manager said he hopes people don’t put too much pressure on themselves to set records but instead focuses on having fun.
“If you haven’t been running but you’re going to do the Turkey Trot, probably the best thing to do is — if you want to do a little running — alternate running and walking,” manager Randy Stearns said.
Turkey Trots are happening all across Central Illinois this year. Mahomet is hosting theirs Thanksgiving morning at 8 a.m. Urbana’s kicks off at 9 a.m. at Crystal Lake Park.
Stearns said he hopes this year’s Turkey Trots inspire people to keep going the distance.
“Hopefully this’ll kind of kickstart people to keep them training over the winter, and maybe they can shoot for one of the Illinois Marathon races,” Stearns said.
