A Scottish tourist has warned the English they “don’t have a chance” in Turkey as prices increase across the popular holiday destination.

The Scottish TikToker, who goes by the name aidantaetiktok, said: “All I’ve seen for the past.. maybe two, three weeks is people getting scammed [and] prices have gone up.

“They basically look at you and see what sort of tourist you are and if you’re gullible, then they’ll charge you more.

“Basically, all this crazy stuff is going on. I just want to actually confirm some of it. Turkey has not.. basically they don’t have the prices they used to anymore.

He said “everything is expensive,” then added: “If you’re English, you’ve not got a chance over here literally, they’ll try and rinse you.”

Turkey’s inflation rate surged to 68.5 percent in March, marking a slight increase from February’s 67.1 percent, as reported by the Turkish Statistical Institute.

Domestic producer price indices have been continuously rising, which has directly resulted in a price increase in all consumer goods and services in the country, according to Statista.

Food and drink prices have been hit the hardest by inflation.

Although inflation has started to slow down recently, food prices are continuing to go up steadily, increasing by 68.1 percent in June compared to the same month in the previous year.

Other tourists have taken to TikTok to talk about how shocked they are at how quiet Turkey has been this summer.

A TikTok user, known as justjennybenny, told her followers it’s “so quiet” in Marmaris. She said they know how busy Turkey usually is during the summer, but things have been very different this year.

Jenny said: “The place is dead. We went to the beach yesterday, and we didn’t leave the beach until gone 8pm, and we walked through Icmeler – all the restaurants were empty.

“It just has a weird vibe about it. We visited Marmaris the other day, and it’s like 50% of people are not here. It’s such a weird feeling. I feel like we’re here during term-time.”
