MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) leader Devlet Bahçeli made a significant statement regarding the renewed discussions on the peace process, calling for Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the PKK, to address Parliament and declare the disarmament of his group.
Bahçeli emphasized that Öcalan had previously expressed his willingness to serve Turkey during his capture and now urged him to announce the end of terrorism and the dismantling of the organization unilaterally.
“If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him speak at the DEM Party’s parliamentary group meeting,” Bahçeli stated. “Let him shout that terrorism is over and that the organization is dissolved.”
Bahçeli also hinted that, if Öcalan takes this step, legal adjustments could be made for his benefit through the “Umut Hakkı” (Right to Hope), potentially paving the way for future developments.
He stressed that the solution should come directly from Imralı (where Öcalan is imprisoned) to the DEM Party, with the aim of removing this longstanding issue from the national agenda once and for all.
Bahçeli concluded by affirming MHP’s readiness for sacrifice for the nation, stating, “We are committed to emptying the baggage and realizing national ideals together under the principles of ‘New Century, New Life, New Turkey.'”
