AFD was launched in early 2021 by the Torneos agency and Global Sports Rights Management (GSRM), a consortium formed by Latin American media executives, to exclusively manage the global commercialization of multi-platform rights to the LPF after agreeing an international media rights deal with the AFA, the national federation.
In 2021, GSRM merged with Chilean entity 1190 Sports to create a single firm serving the South American soccer market.
