BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Central Oregon Community College held its 25th annual Turkey Trot, Saturday. Around 200 runners and walkers braced the cold to take part in the Turkey Trot fun-run scholarship fundraiser.
“It’s actually a really nice fall morning,” said Jacob Swinn, COCC’s assistant director of club and mural sports. “So to get people out, having fun, exercising and just kind of seeing what the campus has to offer and, you know, just extending the tradition of COCC races.”
It was a 5K run or walk at the Bend campus track, preceded by the third annual Toddler Trot. The trot run/walk took racers along the sidewalks before crossing the finish line near the school’s track. Turkey Trot participants received a free T-shirt, lunch and other prizes.
Having community support means a lot to COCC staff.
Swinn added,”Seeing all these people show up and seeing it so far be a big success has been really just rewarding for me and super cool as just part of the community,” Swinn added.
All proceeds benefit the COCC Foundation, which provides scholarship assistance to students and fiscal support for college programs.
