Defence Industry Agency of Türkiye President Haluk Gorgun announced a major milestone Tuesday with the signing of the Turkish army Cloud Computing System Project, a domestic cloud infrastructure designed for the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).
Gorgun emphasized that the project will be a key component of Türkiye’s defense capabilities, saying, “One of the key infrastructures of the ‘Steel Dome’ will be the project we signed today.”
The signing ceremony, held at the agency’s Nuri Demirag Hall, saw the participation of top military officials, including Chief of General Staff General Metin Gurak and Land Forces Commander General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu.
Strategic importance of cloud technology
During the ceremony, Gorgun highlighted the growing strategic role of cloud technology in national defense, pointing out the shift toward digital infrastructures and data-driven warfare.
He noted the increasing need for cloud-based systems due to the rapid rise in data production, stressing that this project will deliver a flexible, accessible, and entirely domestic private cloud infrastructure for the TSK.
“This project will position us to offer competitive solutions globally,” Gorgun said.
“It includes critical components such as servers, storage systems, and network infrastructure, meeting a vital need for the military while also providing significant capabilities to the defense industry,” he added.
Economic and strategic impacts
Gorgun explained that the technology developed through this project would extend beyond military applications, contributing to the broader economy and offering valuable opportunities for Turkish companies.
He also noted that the cloud system would be one of the most important platforms for future military operations.
Meanwhile, Turkish defense giant Havelsan CEO Mehmet Akif Nacar echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the project would enhance the development of domestic technologies for data centers.
