Six military personnel died after two Turkish military helicopters collided midair during a training exercise in southwestern Turkey on Monday. The collision occurred in Isparta province. One helicopter crashed, while the other landed safely.
Five personnel died at the crash site, and another died later in a hospital. The helicopters were conducting regular training flights when the incident happened. The governor of Isparta province, Abdullah Erin, confirmed the deaths and said a brigadier general in charge of the military aviation school was among the victims.
“An investigation has been launched,” Erin said.
The second helicopter landed approximately 400 meters from the crash site. The crashed helicopter, a UH-1 utility model, reportedly split in two upon impact in a field, according to private news agency DHA. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
