Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has drawn attention to the possibility of a nuclear war following the recent developments between Russia and the West.

Speaking with the Ankara correspondents of media outlets, Fidan said “We see that the ongoing war in Ukraine and the ongoing war in Gaza are deepening the fault lines, bringing certain actors together and increasing polarization,” the daily Sözcü reported on Nov. 23.

“We see North Korea taking an active part in the war. The weapons that America and Europe have been sending from the beginning have created a situation where they are openly taking sides in the war,” he said.

He then warned of the possibility of a nuclear war.

“Obviously, as soon as the name nuclear is mentioned, there is a risk. The man is saying: ‘If you launch more missiles and attacks inside my territory than I can tolerate, if the way to stop it is not with the means at my disposal, I will use another superior means’. He says this openly. This is not a joke. The other side is saying, ‘You have nuclear weapons, but I will not allow you to invade anywhere you want because you threaten me with nuclear weapons.”

Fidan also said the amount of Russian help to North Korea is important, because “a new additional front” might be opened for the West in Korea. “So this front is not necessarily a front where there is a hot war, but it will require being ready for a hot war.”

Fidan also commented on the US elections and advised the Democrats to ask themselves “What have we done, why have we suffered such a big loss?”

“One wonders what steps (Trump) will take to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war. How long will the US support Israel in the Gaza conflict? Will it stop the war or will it support its escalation? Frankly speaking, there is not much data that would allow us to say, ‘One hundred percent he will do this.’,” he said.

Moscow says that by giving the green light for Ukraine to fire Western missiles deep inside Russia, the U.S. and its allies are entering into direct conflict with Russia. This week, Putin approved policy changes that lowered the threshold for Russia to use nuclear weapons in response to an attack with conventional weapons, Reuters reported.
