SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) –
Everyone deserves a nice warm, thanksgiving meal on their table and the foodbank of Northern Indiana is making sure that happens.
Thanks to your generosity in donating to the turkeys on the table challenge, the food bank is wrapping up their turkey distribution in a few days. But, they’re making sure to end strong.
Today, 2,000 turkeys were distributed.
Cars lined down the block hours before the drive-through opened.
“This years’ goal was to distribute more turkeys than ever before,” said Marijo Martinec, the executive director and ceo of the food bank of Northern Indiana.
“It took a big plunge this year to get to ten thousand but the need really does continue to be great. we’re up about 12% from last year, with people needing food assistance in our 6 counties, and really everybody wants a turkey at thanksgiving.”
