President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan traveled to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to attend the extraordinary joint summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was also present at the summit attended by Erdoğan.
While there has been no official statement regarding whether Erdoğan and Assad will have a meeting at the summit, the two leaders appeared together in the same frame for the first time in a long time.
In last year’s Gaza-themed summit, Erdoğan and Assad were also pictured together in the same frame for the first time in years.
On several occasions, Erdoğan called for a meeting with Assad to discuss normalizing ties, which Ankara severed after the 2011 Syrian war. But, Assad has said such talks could only happen if the neighbors focus on core issues, including the withdrawal of Turkish forces from the north of Syria.
