Türkiye’s total oil and oil products imports increased by 1.85% in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 4.43 million tons, according to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority’s (EMRA) latest report.

The report highlights that crude oil, the largest segment of Türkiye’s oil imports, decreased by 7.11% in August, totaling 2.65 million tons. Meanwhile, diesel imports dropped by 22.5%, amounting to 1.27 million tons.

Despite the decline in crude oil and diesel, Türkiye’s total oil imports rose due to increased imports of other oil products, such as aviation and marine fuels, gasoline and fuel oil. The largest share of oil imports came from Russia, with 1.31 million tons, followed by Iraq with 487,683 tons and Kazakhstan with 316,212 tons.

Domestic oil sales surge

Domestically, gasoline sales in Türkiye surged by 40.2% in August compared to the same period last year, reaching 519,186 tons. Diesel sales also saw an increase of 9%, amounting to 2.43 million tons. Total oil product sales rose by 12.6%, reaching 3.11 million tons.

Oil product exports and production

In August, Türkiye’s exports of oil products increased by 0.8%, reaching 1.2 million tons. Aviation fuel exports rose by 0.42% to 574,316 tons, and marine fuel exports surged by 104.7%, totaling 159,037 tons.

However, gasoline exports saw a significant decline of 67.2%, totaling just 8,687 tons. Diesel exports, on the other hand, increased by 42.1%, reaching 257,192 tons. Total refinery production of oil products in Türkiye fell by 10.9%, amounting to 3.11 million tons.

LPG imports decline

Türkiye’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports in August decreased by 4.22% compared to the same month last year, totaling 375,052 tons.

The LPG was imported from various countries, including Algeria, the United States, Russia, Nigeria, Senegal, Kazakhstan, Georgia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, LPG exports saw a significant increase of 142.3%, totaling 45,957 tons.
