A fascist national group on Oct. 15 attempted to batter students who were protesting recent femicides in Turkey at Istanbul’s private Koç University located in the Sarıyer district.

Accordingly, the students organized a protest against the recent increase in the number of femicides and the government’s inability to solve the issue on Oct. 15.

Some of the banners read  “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi,” which means “Women, life, freedom” in Kurdish.

“The slogan ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ is a symbol of women’s struggle for freedom and the right to life around the world. This slogan is used by the masses and expresses the common struggle of not only Kurdish women but all women against patriarchy and violence. Women who have been growing the struggle against the male-dominated system for years do not owe anyone a reasonable action,” a student group said in a statement.

The country has recently erupted in outrage after the horrific femicides and the lack of government measures.
