Germany has reversed its arms sales ban to Türkiye, following Norway’s recent decision to lift similar restrictions. According to a report by the German media outlet Spiegel, the German Federal Security Council has authorized the provision of hundreds of millions of euros in weapons to its NATO ally, Türkiye.

Norway had lifted its defense industry export restrictions imposed on Türkiye three weeks ago.

Exports include guided missiles

The approved exports include 100 guided missiles and 28 SeaHake-type torpedoes manufactured by ThyssenKrupp for the Turkish navy.

Although the German Ministry of Economy’s list sent to the Federal Assembly did not specify the total financial scope of these exports, the missiles are valued at approximately 100 million euros, while the torpedoes are priced around 156 million euros.

Greenlight for submarine modernization

The report also noted that various consortia involving German arms companies have been authorized to supply material packages for the modernization of Türkiye’s U209 submarines, with a budget of 79 million euros.

Additionally, the German government has approved the delivery of motor parts worth 1.9 million euros for Turkish corvettes and frigates.
